As this month not only holds a special day we call "Valentine's Day". It also holds another special day in it that may not matter to many of you...My Papa Mahaffey's birthday is this month and also the month he went home to be with the Lord. He was one of the greatest men I knew. He wasn't a rich man or anyone who even cared about material things by any means of the matter. He was a man after God's own heart. He truely loved the Lord with all that was with in him.
It didn't matter when you went to his and my Nanny's house....more often than not you would walk into a house where you could hear him praying from the back room. He would be on the floor on his face....and you usually would hear him calling out your name. Now, as a wild teenager....this wasn't something you wanted to walk into, LOL.
I often think about him...His wisdom that he held. Many times I wish I could go to him and ask him his thoughts on things. Something when I was younger I didn't know to appreciate.
He had a humble spirit....a very compassionate spirit. He could not talk to you about the Lord without his eyes twinkiling and often tearing up. And might I add right here....My brother holds that same twinkle in his eyes. Many times I see it in him. Out of the three siblings...I am sad to say my brother got the inherientance of my Papa's humbleness....I think my sister and I got most of the "I will have the last word" inherientance that didn't come from him, lol.
I think that if Papa were still here he would enjoy going out to feed the homeless. Cause even tho I didn't hear of people really doing that before the last few yrs....He still loved to give what he had away. He didn't have alot...but what he did have he didn't mind sharing at all.
I remember the night he passed...I was staying there at their house with my mother. He was trying to talk to us up to the last second he went to be with the Lord.
But, as I sit here tongitht with many things rambling thru my mind. Many in which I wish I could hear his guidence on. I am reminded of his legecy that he left. His legecy of prayer...and his legecy of Christ. I believe he would tell me...You will find your answer on your face...Seek the Lord with all you have. Do NOT waver from HIM.
I pray that the legecy he has left for me....the imprint he has left on my heart. I will also leave for my children.
So, as tomorrow is Valentine's....many of us will spend with our loves....So is my Papa. He is with his first love....Christ. And I will end this with one of his favorite sayings he often shouting from the back of the church when he liked what the precher was saying " Shake that bush brother".........
